Finally, a post: Rue Lafayette

So I had all these great intentions about blogging, and then I got lazy and didn’t write anything. Sorry about that. The worst part is that I’ve been mentally storing up things to write about, so I have all these potential posts floating around up there, unwritten. But now I’m determined to actually write, and I’m going to start with Rue Lafayette, an adorable and delicious coffee shop in the Lafayette Square area.

I saw a Groupon a few weeks ago for Rue Lafayette, and I fully intended on buying it. I love Groupons, the description of the place sounded great, and I’ve been on a coffee shop kick lately. So it seemed perfect, but for some reason I didn’t buy it when I first saw the Groupon, and I forgot about it until the next day. Fail. Then, of course, my friend Chelsea and I were trying to decide where to go out for breakfast a few days later, and we went there. Even more fail, but it was totally worth it.

First of all, did I mention that Rue Lafayette is adorable? Because it is. I didn’t realize before we walked in that it’s an antique shop as well as a coffee shop, which means that we were able to sit and enjoy our delicious breakfast among some pretty cool old stuff. Even if you’re not necessarily drawn to antique shops, it’s a really unique and cute atmosphere and it gives Rue Lafayette a quaint feel. The very friendly people at Rue Lafayette add to that quaint feel. They were friendly and attentive, and I could easily see myself returning again and again.

And the food was delicious. It’s a French cafe, so it makes sense that they would have great quiche and croissants, but I was majorly impressed. Chelsea and I each had a chocolate croissant with our coffee, and we were both very pleased. This means a lot coming from Chelsea, who lived in France for a few months and knows a good chocolate croissant when she tastes one. She also ordered a quiche while I had a breakfast sandwich. I know it seems crazy to get a breakfast sandwich when homemade quiche is an option, but for many years I’ve had this weird idea that I don’t like quiche, so I tend to avoid it. Well, I had a bite of Chelsea’s, and I think I have to revise my beliefs about quiche. It was perfect. (I should mention that my sandwich was also very good.)

Really, I only have good things to say about Rue Lafayette, and I’m looking forward to going back. Too bad I definitely can’t afford any of the antiques, though.
